Audio books are a great way for children to listen to stories while they are doing other things or while you are driving the car. It is important to choose an audio book that is appropriate to your child. I wanted to write an article to help you do this.
1. First consider the child’s age
The most important thing to consider is the child’s age. Obviously a teen novel would not be suited for a toddler and “The Little Engine That Could” probably won’t cut it for your 10 year old who wants a story or novel that is a little more action packed
2. Check out best seller lists
By going through the best seller lists on any of the major retailers who sell books or audio books will quickly allow you to scan titles that may be suitable for your kids. Many of the websites now allow you to scan for books that are suitable for certain age brackets. Your search just got a hell of a lot easier.
3. Read the reviews
You can either Google “(book title) review” or look at the reviews directly from the online books store you are browsing on. What you want to find out is the basic story line and whether or not it would be suitable for your children. Although Twilight is a teenage novel I don’t know if I would want my 13 year old reading about Edward and Bella on their honeymoon in book #4.
You also want to see what people thought of the book and rated the book. If the book has bad ratings then you probably don’t want to download it. But if it has good ratings then it is probably worth a buy.
4. Buy and download the audiobook and then listen to it
Buy the version you want and download it and if you are really worried about whether or not it will be suitable for your kids then go through it once yourself first before you let them listen to it. I like to listen to them first time through with my kids because there is a sense of excitement because you don’t know what is going to happen. However, there is some risk in this.
Choosing the right stories for you kids shouldn’t take long and it is something you should try and get your kids involved in. Audio books are great and if you can listen to them with your kids it gives you things to talk about.
